Lloyd D. Couch
Lloyd D. Couch, 87, of Abilene, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 01, 2017, at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street with Reverend Jerry McNeil officiating. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery At Abilene with military honors, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.
Lloyd D. Couch was born in Big Cabin, Oklahoma to Jewel Louise Darter and Felix Couch on September 22, 1929. He joined the Army in 1946 where he served honorably for four years. Immediately after his discharge he married Shirley Ann Roman on August 2nd,1951. They spent 60 beautiful years together. She preceded him in death in 2011. Papa Couch or Papa "C" as most called him was a well loved and respected Christian man whom loved God, his family and friends more than anything. In his more mobile years he loved to do his walks to Emmaus. Lloyd and his wife, Shirley were two people to be admired for the outstanding love they had for each other. They were an example of what true love really is. Papa Couch loved to fish and hunt, he and mama Couch always did it together, because she loved it just as much as he did. Papa Couch loved to cook and BBQ for people. He knew how to make someone feel special, like they were part of the family, whether they were or not. He and mama Couch knew how to have fun and enjoy life " which they did". He was an inspiration and will be missed on this ole earth until the day we die and go to see them again ourselves.
Once a person stopped to ask his son Harold if he was related to Lloyd Couch. He went on to say, "I knew him, he helped lead me to Jesus and change my life on one the Walks to Emmaus".
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his only sibling, his brother, Earl Couch.
He asked that we thank his Dr. and staff, the preacher and the little Mexican man that sat beside him at church. A special "thank you" to Nelda James ( his home health aid).
He is survived by five sons; Lloyd Ray and wife Angelina, Paul, Allen, Robert Couch, all of Abilene; Harold and wife Linda of Hawley; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Pallbearers include Richard Giddings, Lee Shelley, Xavier Telamontez, Mike Choate, and Riley Gordan.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope.
