Maxie Eugene Wilson
Maxie Eugene Wilson, 79, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, May 02, 2017 at a local nursing facility. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 04, 2017 at Potosi Baptist Church, 2826 Potosi Rd., with Pastor Keith Clifton officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilson was born March 13, 1938, in Abilene, Texas to the late Clyde Eugene and Jewell Jean Wilson. Dad attended North Park Elementary, North Park Junior High and Abilene High School. He worked for Meads Bakery in Abilene where he met his best friend, Candy Pena, who would later become his brother in law. He moved to Houston in 1971 and he worked for Rainbow Bakery prior to moving back to Abilene and finishing his working years at the Coca Cola Bottling Company. Maxie was an avid Texas Ranger and Dallas Cowboy sports fan and nothing brought him greater joy than watching his grandkids play sports.
Left to cherish his memories include his loving wife since 1965, Manuela (Mickie) Pena Wilson of Abilene; his children, Rhonda Swinney and husband, Kyle, of Abilene, Beverly Cokonougher and husband, Brian, of Abilene; grandchildren, Jeffrey Swinney and wife, Samantha, of Abilene, Jason Swinney of College Station, Texas, Katie Cokonougher, Keifer Cokonougher, and Brianna Cokonougher, all of Abilene; two sisters, Darlene Batson and husband, Frank and Dana Currie and husband, C.V.; and one brother, Larry Wilson and wife, Carolyn, all of Abilene; many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gregg Wilson (nephew), Keith Currie (nephew) Tony Daniel (nephew), Rick E. Abbe, Billy Abbe and Jeff Bell (long time famiy friends).
Mr. Wilson is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Eugene Wilson and Jewell Jean McCraw Wilson.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Hendrick Hospice Care. Special thanks to caregivers Rebecca and Tiffany.
